How Much Does Interior Design Cost in Pune? A Per Sq Ft Guide for 2026

Almost every enquiry we receive at our Pune studio opens with the same sentence: "Can you give me a rough idea of cost?" It is a fair question, and the reason it is hard to answer in one number is that "interior design" in Pune covers everything from a coat of paint and a wardrobe to a full structural rework of a Baner duplex.

So instead of a single figure, here is how the numbers actually break down in 2026 — the per square foot bands, what each band buys you, and the line items that turn a comfortable budget into an uncomfortable one.

The short answer: interior design cost per sq ft in Pune

For a residential turnkey project in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, priced on carpet area, the working bands in 2026 are:

  • Essential — ₹1,300 to ₹1,900 per sq ft. Modular kitchen, wardrobes in all bedrooms, basic false ceiling in the living room, electrical modifications, painting. Laminate finishes, standard hardware.

  • Mid-segment — ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 per sq ft. The above plus TV and crockery units, designed ceilings with profile lighting, wallpaper or texture on feature walls, upgraded hardware with soft-close, better counter materials, and some loose furniture.

  • Premium and luxury — ₹3,200 to ₹6,000+ per sq ft. Veneer and PU finishes, imported hardware, stone and fluted panelling, custom joinery, integrated lighting design, curated loose furniture and art, and civil or structural changes to the layout.

Multiply by carpet area and you get the honest range for a full home:

  • 1 BHK (400–550 sq ft): ₹5.5 L to ₹10 L for essential to mid work.

  • 2 BHK (650–900 sq ft): ₹8.5 L to ₹18 L, with most Pune families landing between ₹10 L and ₹14 L.

  • 3 BHK (1,000–1,400 sq ft): ₹14 L to ₹30 L depending on finish level.

  • Villa, penthouse or 4 BHK (1,800 sq ft and above): ₹30 L upward, and this is where design decisions, not area, drive the number.

Treat these as planning bands, not quotations. A quotation only becomes real after a site measurement and a scope list.

Where the money actually goes

On a typical Pune 3 BHK, the split looks roughly like this:

  • Modular kitchen — 15% to 22%. The single largest line item in most homes. Carcass material, shutter finish, hardware brand and counter material each move it by lakhs.

  • Wardrobes and storage — 18% to 25%. Driven by running feet, not by room count. A 10 ft wardrobe with loft costs roughly double a 5 ft one, whatever the room.

  • False ceiling, lighting and electrical — 12% to 18%. Rewiring, additional points, profile lights and drivers.

  • Civil, plumbing and bathroom work — 8% to 20%. Near zero if you are not touching the layout, and the biggest variable if you are.

  • Painting, wallpaper and finishes — 8% to 12%.

  • Loose furniture, curtains and décor — 10% to 20%. Frequently excluded from the first quotation you are shown.

  • Design fee and project management — 8% to 12% where charged separately.

The seven line items that inflate a Pune quotation

Most budget overruns are not caused by expensive taste. They are caused by scope that was never in the sheet you approved.

  1. Loft storage. Quoted separately from the wardrobe below it in a surprising number of estimates. Pune flats have high loft potential and it is worth having — but price it up front.

  2. Hardware upgrades. "Soft-close" and "channel drawers" are two very different numbers. Ask for the brand and the series, not the adjective.

  3. Counter material. Granite to quartz to sintered stone can be a ₹80,000 swing on one kitchen.

  4. Electrical points. Every new point is labour, wire, conduit and a chased wall. Twenty extra points is not a rounding error.

  5. Bathroom reworks. Replacing tiles means breaking waterproofing. In a tower with a slab-level restriction, this can escalate quickly.

  6. Society charges. Most Pune and PCMC societies levy a refundable deposit and a monthly workmen or lift charge during interior work. Budget ₹15,000 to ₹50,000.

  7. GST. Check whether the number you were shown is inclusive or exclusive. An 18% difference on ₹12 L is ₹2.16 L.

Why two quotations for the same flat differ by ₹4 lakh

When a client shows us three quotations side by side, the cheapest is almost never the cheapest project. It is usually the least complete one. The three things to compare are:

  • Carcass material. Commercial ply, BWP ply, HDHMR and MDF behave very differently in Pune's monsoon humidity, especially in kitchens and bathrooms. This is not a place to save.

  • Running feet, not lump sums. A quotation that says "Bedroom 1 furniture — ₹2,10,000" tells you nothing. One that lists 9 ft wardrobe + 3 ft loft + 4 ft study at a rate per running foot can be checked.

  • What is excluded. The exclusions page is the most informative page in any interiors quotation. Read it first.

How we price at Gruham Buildsol

We work as a design-build studio rather than an aggregator, which means the team that designs your home is the team that executes it, with our own artisans on site. Practically, that changes the costing in three ways: the estimate is itemised line by line before any advance is taken, material grades are named by brand and series rather than by category, and scope added mid-project is quoted and approved in writing before it is executed.

No hidden variables is not a slogan for us — it is the reason our projects finish close to the number we opened with.

Before you set a budget, do these three things

  1. Get your carpet area right. Not built-up, not super built-up. Interiors are priced on the floor you can walk on.

  2. Separate must-have from phase-two. Kitchen, wardrobes and electrical are hard to retrofit later. Feature walls, décor and the guest bedroom can wait six months without pain.

  3. Keep 10% in reserve. Even a well-planned project meets one surprise behind a wall.

If you would like an itemised range for your own flat rather than a market average, our team does a site study and a written budget band as part of a free design consultation. You can also see the finish levels described above in the work on our projects page, or read how our turnkey process handles scope and costing from concept to handover. Common questions on payment stages, timelines and GST are answered on our FAQ page.

Figures in this article are indicative market bands for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad as of 2026 and are not a quotation. Actual cost depends on carpet area, scope, material selection and site conditions.
