"How much will it cost to paint my flat?" is usually the first question we hear, and the honest answer is that it depends less on the brand and more on the condition of the walls and the system you choose. This guide explains how interior wall painting is priced in Pune in 2026, so you can compare quotes properly.
All figures below are indicative ranges we see in Pune and PCMC for 2026, covering material and labour, measured on paintable wall and ceiling area. Your actual price depends on a site inspection.
Step 1: Understand paintable area vs carpet area
Painters in Pune price on paintable area, not carpet area. Paintable area includes all walls and ceilings, minus large openings. A common rule of thumb is that paintable area is roughly 3 to 3.5 times the carpet area. So a 750 sq ft carpet 2 BHK usually works out to around 2,300 to 2,600 sq ft of paintable surface.
Always ask the contractor how they measured. Two quotes with the same per sq ft rate can differ by 20% simply because one uses a higher multiplier.
Step 2: Indicative interior painting rates in Pune, 2026
- Economy repaint (one coat touch-up putty, economy emulsion or distemper): about ₹12 to ₹18 per sq ft.
- Standard repaint (spot putty, primer, two coats of washable mid-range emulsion): about ₹18 to ₹28 per sq ft.

- Fresh painting on new plaster (two coats putty, primer, two finish coats): about ₹25 to ₹45 per sq ft depending on the finish.
- Texture and designer finishes on a feature wall: about ₹45 to ₹120 per sq ft, sometimes more for specialist effects.
Labour usually accounts for roughly ₹8 to ₹15 per sq ft of these totals in Pune. Doors, windows, grills and wooden surfaces are normally quoted separately per item or per running foot.
Step 3: A worked example for a 2 BHK
Take a 10-year-old 2 BHK in Wakad with about 2,400 sq ft of paintable area and a few damp patches near the balcony:
- Damp treatment and crack repair on two walls: a fixed lump sum after inspection.
- Standard repaint at ₹22 per sq ft: about ₹52,800.
- One texture feature wall in the living room (100 sq ft at ₹70): about ₹7,000.
- Enamel on main door and grills: quoted per item.
Total: roughly ₹60,000 to ₹70,000 before taxes and any furniture handling. The same flat with premium emulsion would land closer to ₹85,000 to ₹1,00,000.
What pushes the price up

- Dark-to-light colour changes, which may need an extra coat.

Where you can save without regret

How to compare two painting quotes
Put them side by side and check: measured area, number of putty, primer and finish coats, exact product name, damp treatment, exclusions and touch-up visits. A slightly higher quote with a complete scope is almost always cheaper over five years.
