When a painter says "we will use Berger", that tells you the brand, not the product. Berger Paints, like every major manufacturer, has economy, mid-range, premium and luxury lines for interiors, plus separate exterior and waterproofing systems. Choosing the right tier for each room is where most of the value lies.
This is an independent guide from Gruham Buildsol. We specify paints from several manufacturers, including Berger and Asian Paints, depending on the wall, the room and the budget. Product names and specifications change over time, so always confirm the current range with the dealer and check the product data sheet.
Interior paint tiers, simply explained
- Economy (distemper and basic emulsions): lowest cost, limited washability. Suitable for ceilings, store rooms and short-term rentals. Berger's Bison range sits in this space.
- Mid-range washable emulsions: better coverage and stain resistance. A sensible default for bedrooms. Ranges such as Berger Rangoli and Easy Clean are positioned here, with Easy Clean focused on washability.
- Premium and luxury emulsions: richer finish, better scrub resistance and colour retention. Ideal for living rooms, passages and feature walls. Berger's Silk range is its luxury interior line.
Matching paint to the room in a Pune flat
- Living and dining: premium or luxury emulsion with a soft sheen. These walls get the most light, touch and attention.
- Kids' rooms and passages: a highly washable emulsion. Crayon and hand marks are inevitable. Our article on designing a child's bedroom has more ideas.
- Bedrooms: a good mid-range or premium matt or low-sheen finish.
- Kitchen and utility: washable, stain-resistant emulsion, with the right primer near wet areas.
- Bathrooms: anti-fungal properties matter more than sheen.
- Ceilings: a dedicated ceiling white or economy emulsion is usually enough.
Exterior paints for Pune's climate
Exterior walls need resistance to driving monsoon rain, algae and summer UV. Berger's WeatherCoat family covers this segment, with variants focused on long life, dust resistance and all-round protection. Pune homes near construction sites or highways benefit from dust-resistant finishes. Read our exterior painting guide for the full system.
Waterproofing before paint
No emulsion can fix a leaking terrace or a failed plumbing joint. Berger and other brands sell waterproofing coatings and primers, but they are part of a repair, not a substitute for one. Always solve the source first, as explained in damp walls and seepage.
Low-odour and low-VOC options
Families with infants, elderly members or anyone with breathing sensitivities should ask for low-VOC, low-odour products. Most premium lines now offer them. See low-odour painting for Pune families.
Brand is one decision; system is the bigger one
A mid-range emulsion on well-prepared walls with proper putty and primer will outlast a luxury emulsion on a poorly prepared wall. When comparing quotes, check the full system, not just the topcoat. Our painting cost guide shows how each layer affects price, and what a professional painting service includes lists the steps.
Getting colour right
Once the product is chosen, colour is the next decision. Berger and other brands offer visualiser tools and colour guidance; we cover how to use them in colour consultation before you paint.
