Berger Express Painting Explained: What Mechanised Painting Means for Your Pune Flat

Mechanised painting services have changed what homeowners expect from a repaint. Berger Express Painting is one of the best-known examples in India: a home painting service from Berger Paints that uses machines and trained crews to make the job faster and cleaner than traditional hand-only methods. This article explains what that approach involves and how to judge whether it suits your Pune flat.

Note: Gruham Buildsol is an independent interior, painting and renovation firm. This article explains the method; it is not a statement on behalf of Berger Paints.

What "mechanised painting" actually means

According to Berger's own description of its home painting service, the approach rests on a few practical changes to how a site is run:

  • Electric sanders with vacuum extraction, which collect sanding dust at the source instead of letting it settle on furniture, wardrobes and AC filters.

  • Thorough masking of floors, doors, windows, electrical points and furniture with plastic sheets, tape and corner guards before work starts.

  • Moisture meters to check walls for dampness before paint goes on.

  • High-efficiency rollers and sprayers for even coats.

  • Planned sequencing by trained teams, so rooms are completed in a predictable order.

  • Clean-up after the final coat: masking removed, waste collected, floors and fixtures wiped.

Why it matters in Pune apartments

Most Pune repaints happen in occupied flats. Families in Wakad, Baner, Kharadi or Hinjewadi rarely move out for a week, so dust, smell and disruption matter as much as the final finish. Dust-extracted sanding and proper masking make a real difference to how liveable the home is during the job. Our guide to repainting an occupied flat covers the rest of the planning.

The moisture check is equally important here. Pune's monsoon leaves many walls damp well into October, and painting over moisture is the most common cause of bubbling and peeling. See damp walls and seepage for what to fix first.

What mechanised painting does not change

Machines speed up preparation and application, but they do not replace judgement. The quality of the result still depends on:

  1. Correct diagnosis of damp, cracks and old paint condition.

  2. The right product for each room and surface.

  3. Enough drying time between putty, primer and finish coats.

  4. Careful cutting-in at ceilings, skirting and switchboards.

A fast job that skips drying time is not a better job. Ask how many days the schedule allows between coats.

Questions to ask any painting team

  • Will sanding be machine-based with dust extraction?

  • Which rooms will be masked and how will furniture be protected?

  • Will you measure moisture and share readings before starting?

  • Which exact product goes on which wall, and how many coats?

  • Who supervises the site each day and signs off each room?

These questions apply whether you book Berger's service directly or hire an independent contractor. Our checklist on choosing painting contractors in Pune has more.

Painting as part of a bigger makeover

If the repaint is part of new wardrobes, a kitchen upgrade or a room-by-room renovation, painting should be sequenced last, after carpentry and electrical changes. Colour also deserves planning rather than picking from a fan deck at the last minute; see colour consultation before you paint.
